Time Lapse Video: Tsunami rises and falls in Kailua Bay
By Selected News Articles @ 11:19 AM :: 8870 Views

KBIG-FM is citing an unconfirmed report of a house floating in Kealakekua Bay. Now Confirmed...

KBIG-fm The tsunami warning for Hawaii County has been downgraded to a tsunami advisory. Large destructive tsunami waves are no longer expected. However, an evacuation order remains in effect for Hawaii island. Extensive damage has been reported in Kailua-Kona and communities South. Damage assessments are required to determine what areas are safe to return to. Residents are advised to stay away from coastal areas. All beaches are closed, surges and unusual tides are expected throughout the day.

KBIG-fm Due to a reported 12 inch water main break at Keauhou Bay, at this time a water system valve is shut in the Keauhou area affecting customers from Keauhou Sheraton to Manu Kai Street in Kona. The extent of damages cannot be assessed due to ongoing surges in the Bay. At this time, water system storage reservoirs are not depleting. If needed, alternate water supply sites can be set up. More information will become available when this situation can be better assessed.

Due to this situation, customers are advised to continue conserving water until further notice. Conservation means a 10% reduction in water use.

Again, a water main break in Keauhou Bay has occurred, and, a valve has been shut to prevent depletion of water reservoirs in the affected area of Keauhou Bay and Manu Kai Street in Kona.

If you need additional information, or have emergency needs, please call Water Supply Emergency Line at 808 961-8790.

Here are some photos of damage to Alii Drive in Kailua-Kona adjacent to the King Kamehameha Hotel and flooding in the King Kam parking lot.
