With Power Restored, Rep Pine drops State of Emergency request
By Councilmember Kymberly Marcos Pine @ 5:04 PM :: 7900 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment

Aloha,

I released the following statement regarding the HECO situation yesterday:

“With power restored to Ewa Beach I am no longer requesting the Governor declare a state of emergency.   Due to the rare circumstances, however, we are on high alert and will repeat the request should this occur again.  We have yet to determine the true damage to our community.

“Friday was a sad day for Hawaii as it represented a clear departure of who we are and our long-standing commitment to care for our people during a crisis.  Your spirits can be broken when a disaster occurs and those that have been tasked to help you turns their back on you.  This is not the Hawaii that we know and love.  I am urging all of us to reflect on what has happened.  We must vigilantly fight to keep our values and the Aloha spirit intact, and reject becoming anything different.  In times of disaster we must come together, put aside our differences and help people first.

“I want to thank Governor Neil Abercrombie and his staff for making this issue a priority, the Civil Service personnel for taking care of us and the workers that labored all night to restore power to Ewa Beach.  I urge HECO and IBEW to settle their differences now for the sake of the people of Hawaii.”

Mahalo,

REP. KYMBERLY MARCOS PINE

Minority Floor Leader - District 43 - Ewa Beach, Puuloa, West Loch Fairways, Iroquois Point
