HIRONO AND HANABUSA PREFER GOVERNMENT SHUT DOWN OVER MODEST SPENDING REDUCTION

The Hawaii Republican Party reacted to Congressional Representatives Mazie Hirono and Colleen Hanabusa's opposition to the passage of the Federal Budget continuing resolution which prevented a government shutdown.
"The Hawaii Republican Party commends President Obama today for working with Republicans and signing the continuing resolution that will keep the Federal Government funded for another two weeks," stated Jonah Kaauwai, Hawaii Republican Party Chair. "Congresswomen Mazie Hirono and Colleen Hanabusa, continue to show how ineffective and out-of-step they are. Hirono and Hanabusa voted against this resolution that was supported by almost all Republicans, a majority of the Democratic caucus, President Obama, and both of Hawaii's Senators. Only the far left wing of the Democratic Party opposed this measure.”
Kaauwai continued, “The $4 billion in cuts contained in this resolution only represented one tenth of one percent of the total budget. If a median income household in Hawaii making $65,000 per year had to make a proportional cut to their budget it would amount to $6 per month. It is extremely disappointing that this modest reduction in spending is unacceptable to our 2 Congresswomen. Basically, they are telling the voters of Hawaii that they would prefer a government shut down over this reasonable reduction in spending.”
