Finalists for new Dean of College of Natural Sciences will visit UH Mānoa

News Release from UH Manoa
Four finalists have been identified for the position of Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.  The four are scheduled to participate in a two-day period of visits that covers college department discussions; meetings with senior administrators, faculty, staff, students and members of their respective professions; and a public presentation.
 
Campus and community members, as well as the general public, are encouraged to attend.
 
The campus visits of the four candidates have been scheduled as follows:
 
Dr. Jay Siegel, visiting March 3-4
Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry
Director, Organic Chemistry Institute (OCI), University of Zurich
Public Presentation: Friday, March 4, 2:45-4:15 p.m./Bilger Hall 150
 
Dr. Meredith Bond, visiting March 28-29
Professor and Chair, Department of Physiology
University of Maryland, School of Medicine
Public Presentation: Tuesday, March 29, 2:45-4:15 p.m./Architecture Building, Room 205
 
Dr. William Ditto, visiting March 31-April 1
Founding Director, School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering
Olin Professor of Biomedical Engineering
Arizona State University
Public Presentation: Friday, April 1, 2:45-4:15 p.m./Bilger Hall 150
 
Dr. Thomas Orlando, visiting April 14-15
Associate Dean, College of Sciences
Associate Director, Strategic Energy Institute
Professor, School of Chemistry and Biochemistry
Georgia Institute of Technology
Public Presentation: Friday, April 15, 2:45-4:15 p.m./Bilger Hall 150
 
“The Search Advisory Committee has done an excellent job of identifying a pool of highly qualified candidates,” said Chancellor Virginia Hinshaw.   Added Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Reed Dasenbrock, “The Dean of the College of Natural Sciences is a key position in our efforts to increase the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) workforce in the state, so I encourage the campus and community to come to the candidates’ public presentations. We are grateful that Alan Teramura continues to provide leadership for the College as Interim Dean.”
