UNCLE TOM CUMMINGS RETURNS TO MISSION HOUSES MUSEUM TO “TALK STORY”

Tom Cummings Returns as Featured Guest for March “Talking Story” Presentation

HONOLULU, HI – Storyteller and expert on Hawaiian lore, Tom Cummings, affectionately known as “Uncle Tom”, will be the featured guest for Mission Houses Museum’s March edition of its monthly “Talking Story” presentation and performance series.  Uncle Tom, formerly a guest in a 2010 edition of Talking Story, will present Maui Slows Down Sun and Haloanakalaukapalili: The Story of the Kalo Plant.

“It is always a pleasure and a delight to have Uncle Tom with us to share his talent and stories”, says Dr. Tom Woods, Executive Director of Mission Houses Museum, “he is gifted in that he not only shares stories, but also the art of sharing stories with his audiences.”

Thomas C. Cumming, Jr., was born on Maui in 1937 and is a teacher of Hawaiiana and English, and storyteller for 50 years.  He captivates audiences with a dramatic flair, utilizing demonstrations, objects and sensory approach.

The March edition of Mission Houses Museum’s “Talking Story”, which focuses on themes of myths, legends, and fables in 2011, will take place on Wednesday, March 9th at 7PM in the Kana‘ina Building on ‘Iolani Palace grounds.  Admission is free.

Mission Houses Museum, located in Honolulu’s Historic Capitol District, is known worldwide as the place where the Hawaiian written language was developed in collaboration with the ali‘i. The museum preserves the oldest and second oldest documented houses in Hawai‘i and the largest collection of Hawaiian language books in the world.
