RELATED: Freedom? SB218 would force all Hospitals to provide Abortion Pill
Dear friends,
Despite our strong opposition, Hawaii Senate Bill 218 relating to emergency contraception PASSED out of the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday. We were also disappointed to learn that when the senate judiciary committee approved the bill with a vote of 3 to 2, they also rejected our request for a "healthcare right of conscience" exception.
We want to encourage you to remain strong in your convictions and have peace in your heart though, for your efforts to combat this terrible bill were not in vain.
This insidious bill moves on to the senate floor for a vote, where we will still have a chance to prevent its passage or at the very least be successful in requesting a right of conscience amendment. If passed by the Senate, it will go to the House of Representatives. We will let you know when it is time to contact your senator.
THE VOTES in the judiciary committee for this bill WERE AS FOLLOWS: 3 Ayes: Senators Clayton Hee and Maile Shimabukuro; Aye with reservations: Senator Les Ihara; 2 Noes: Senators Mike Gabbard and Sam Slom, excused: none.
Please take a moment to contact Senators Gabbard and Slom to thank them for their opposition votes on SB 218.
