Wanna know why homebuilders in Hawaii prefer to build mansions?

A new "Hawaii Matters" video from the Grassroot Institute explains how regulations skew homebuilding toward mansions in rural areas
It's not a mystery why homebuilders in Hawaii have been more willing to build single mansions on ag-land plots than multi-unit housing projects in urban areas.
It comes down to what's easier, and according to the latest "Hawaii Matters" video from the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii, the former are a lot easier to build than the latter.
Hosted by Institute Executive Vice President Joe Kent, the video notes that ironically, homebuilders say multi-unit projects could be more profitable, but there are just too many rules, regulations and delays to make it worth the effort.
That's why billionaires like Oprah and Mark Zuckerberg can so easily build deluxe mansions in the country here while former Hawaii residents such as "American Idol" contestant Iam Tongi and Darrah Yamamoto, both featured in this video, now find themselves living on the mainland.
