Plant Theft Bill hearing scheduled in the House of Representatives
HB12, a bill introduced by State Representative Cynthia Thielen (R, 50th District) which establishes monetary restitution to property owners who have been victimized by plant thefts, will be heard by the House Committee on Agriculture this Friday, Feb. 11, at 9 a.m. in Conference Room 312 at the State Capitol.
This bill establishes that those convicted for stealing an agricultural product or commodity not only would face criminal penalties, but be required to pay for the value and the replanting of the stolen agricultural products or commodities.
"This is an important bill not only to those growing and distributing plants, but to retail outlets as well as private and public land owners," said Representative Thielen, encouraging those concerned to send in testimony immediately in strong support of HB12.
