Rapides Parish Louisiana Sheriff's Office News Release

On October 12th, 2022, the RPSO Sex Offender Registry received information that a possible Sex Offender was in violation in the Alexandria area. The Detective assigned to the Sex Offender Registration Section began his investigation on the suspect, identified as Renato Ponce Cachola of Kahului, Hawaii.

Through his investigation, it was determined Cachola was allegedly attempting to bring a subject back with him to Hawaii and the subject was possibly a victim of sexual crimes. Detectives obtained a warrant for Cachola for Failure to Register/Report as a Sex Offender and he was located, placed under arrest and booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center with a $5,000 bond.

The investigation was then turned over to the RPSO Special Victim’s Unit (SVU). With the help of the Children’s Advocacy Center, SVU Detectives developed probable cause and a warrant was obtained for the arrest of Cachola for one count First Degree Rape. Cachola was still in custody at the time the warrant was issued and he was booked on the new charges. Cachola remains in the Rapides Parish Detention Center being held on a $505,000 bond.

SVU Detectives say their investigation is still ongoing and further charges are expected as they are working with other agencies on this case.
