CIVIL UNIONS BILL PASSES SENATE JUDICIARY AND LABOR COMMITTEE

SB 232 Relating to Civil Unions
The bill extends the same rights, benefits, protections, and responsibilities of spouses in a marriage to partners in a civil union. Takes effect 1/1/2012.

The Senate Judiciary committee voted today 3 to 2 to pass the civil unions bill (SB 232) out of committee.  The bill will now move to the full Senate for a vote.  The vote in committee today was as follows:

  • Senator Clayton Hee (SUPPORT)
  • Senator Maile Shimabukuro (SUPPORT)
  • Senator Mike Gabbard (OPPOSE)
  • Senator Les Ihara, Jr. (SUPPORT)
  • Senator Sam Slom (OPPOSE)

If you have not done so already, please take the time to click the link below to send a message to your own Senator.  A full Senate vote could come quickly, so please make the time to contact your Senator.  If you would like to send one email to all Senators, you can do so at sens@capitol.hawaii.gov.  However, we strongly recommend that you make contact with your Senator in a more personal way.

We continue to stress that you keep your talking points concise. Please refrain from threats or any other means of non-Christian behavior.  We have a right (and duty) to express our beliefs but we should always remain Christlike in everything that we do.
