Former Hawaii Republican Congressman Charles K. Djou released a statement on the shooting of Arizona Democrat Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.
“My family and I are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic shooting of my friend Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords and members of her staff. Gabbie is a wonderful representative who works in a bi-partisan fashion for her constituents,” stated Djou. “I will always remember Gabbie for reaching out to Republicans and Democrats alike to find solutions toward bringing down Federal spending and establishing a strong national defense. My heart goes out to Rep. Giffords' family and the families of her staff on this tragic day.”
Former Rep. Djou served on the House Armed Services Committee with Rep. Giffords. The two of them co-sponsored the Truth-in-Spending bill in the 111th Congress and co-authored editorials together advocating for restraint in Federal government spending. Djou and Giffords' bipartisan cooperative relationship was a subject on televised debates in Hawaii and Arizona.
