Boards and commissions provide an opportunity for citizens to have a voice in their government and provide a means of influencing decisions that shape the quality of life for the residents of Hawaii. The Office of the Governor is looking for individuals who are dedicated to continuing the State of Hawaii’s momentum toward a strong and sustainable future, and are committed to investing in the people of Hawaii and our statewide community.

City seeks candidates to serve on number of boards and commissions with vacant positions

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu is actively seeking passionate, highly-qualified candidates to serve on a number of City boards, commissions and committees which currently have vacant positions, including openings on the Honolulu Ethics Commission and the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation.

City boards, commissions, and committees play an important role in the City and County of Honolulu. Members of these bodies are typically appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council, and members do not receive salaries or other forms of compensation.

Here are the City boards, commissions and committees that currently have vacant positions, along with the number of vacant positions for each body listed in parentheses:

Volunteers who serve on our County of Hawaiʻi boards and commissions are community oriented and community minded. These are our local leaders and knowledgeable resources who add value to our County. These value added volunteers give of their time and talent to serve in these important roles. Applicants sought for Maui County Boards and Commissions

Applicants are being sought from residents willing to provide public service on various Maui County boards, commissions, councils and committees. Citizen volunteer responsibilities include attending meetings, receiving public testimony, and reviewing policies and standards.

Panel members make recommendations and decisions that impact Maui County. Positions are appointed by the Mayor, confirmed by the Maui County Council and have terms lasting two to five years. Citizens serve as volunteers and provide important public service for Maui County government. Volunteers are reimbursed for allowable travel expenses.

Submissions are kept on file for at least two years, and applicants may be considered for nomination whenever a position opens. Openings occur when a term expires or when vacancies occur after resignations from boards, commissions and committees.

Anyone interested in serving on a board or commission should apply online by visiting https://mauicounty.gov/167/Boards-Commissions. Paper applications are available at the County Building second-floor lobby Information Desk, the Mayor’s Office on the 9th floor and the Maui County Service Center in Kahului. Applications are also available at Division of Motor Vehicles Offices in Pukalani, Kihei, Lahaina, Lanai and Molokai, and at the County Public Works Office in Hana.

The County of Kauai Office of Boards and Commissions was established by Kauai voters in the 2006 General Election.  It provides support and oversight for Kauai County's 14 boards and commissions and 3 advisory committees.  Click here to view information on each Board, Commission and Advisory Committee.

Kauai County's 14 boards and commissions and 3 advisory committees are comprised of 126 volunteer board members, commissioners, and committee members who oversee and make critical decisions about key County functions and groups.  Volunteers who serve on Kauai County boards and commissions are the best in their fields, local leaders, and valuable, knowledgeable resources.  They give an extraordinary amount of time to serve in these roles each year and make both personal and professional sacrifices to do so.  We are grateful for the dedication, commitment and their willpower to serve our island home.
