In case you’ve been hiding under a rock since just before Christmas, Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie has committed our lives and our treasure to a Sacred Cause. Our New Governor is heroically leading the State in a Holy War to defeat the Diabolical Birthers. On Day Seven of this Fight to the Death, the national and international media continue to react while the local media focuses intently on the price of ahi, hoping against hope that Aoki and Asselbaye will quiet The Abercrombie down and get him to pretend to refocus on the budget or something….
WND: Hawaii's war on 'birthers' (From birther central)
The new governor of Hawaii has made it clear in interviews with the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times and other media that he's going to war with those of us who demand proof of Barack Obama's constitutional eligibility for the presidency.
So be it. (Exactly as predicted, Abercrombie has reenergized the birthers.)
Hartford Courant: Hawaii's new governor says he'll straighten it all out. Who's he kidding?
Mr. Abercrombie is wasting his time. The truth is no match for the birthers' zealotry, the depth of their twisted contempt for the president, their ceaseless efforts over the past two years to delegitimize him because down deep they believe Mr. Obama or anyone of his racial makeup does not deserve to be president of the United States.
Mr. Abercrombie is well-meaning, but he ought to leave it alone. Recognizing the birthers keeps them going, like feeding oxygen to a fire. (This is exactly his intent.)
Just ignore them.
East Valley (AZ) Tribune: Help us help you, Mr. President
Imagine, for just $10, Obama could put this whole issue behind him. I'll even spot him. Heck, he can even do it in person since he happens to be vacationing in Hawaii this week.
Perhaps the president is too busy and doesn't have the time to waste on such an immaterial fact as his country of birth. That's hard to believe since the commander and chief found the time to call the owner of the Philadelphia Eagles and congratulate them on giving quarterback Michael Vick a second chance.
Again, I am not a "birther." I don't subscribe to the belief that Obama was born in Kenya or some other country for that matter. However, Obama's lack of interest in putting this issue to rest gives me a reason to pause and consider. Give us a reason to give you the benefit of the doubt, Mr. President. Help us help you! (But Obama doesn’t want this to be put to rest. He wants to keep the fires flaming.)
Newark Star-Ledger: Just ignore birthers
…it’s a lousy idea. For all sane Americans, this issue is settled. There is no reason to answer the ridiculous claims of a dwindling number of crackpots who have been rendered irrelevant.
Besides, no amount of evidence is going to convince a bunch of crazies who already believe in a complicated conspiracy that stretches across generations of elected and appointed officials of both parties on local, state and federal levels to falsify the birth records of a multiracial child who someday might be elected president.
Abercrombie should ignore these loony tunes. The rest of America has.
