Changes to TheBus and TheHandi-Van fares starting July 1, 2022

News Release from City and County of Honolulu, June 1, 2022

HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Transportation Services is announcing upcoming fare changes to both TheBus and TheHandi-Van starting July 1, 2022.

The upcoming fare changes come with the enactment of Ordinance 21-7, which includes changes to daily, monthly and annual passes for Adult, Youth, Senior, and Disability fares. The Honolulu City Council approved Ordinance 21-7, at the recommendation of the Honolulu Rate Commission in 2020. Fare prices are set to keep TheBus and TheHandi-Van fleet up-to-date and operational in the current economic and social times. The current fare has been in place since 2018.

The following fare changes for TheBus will be effective on July 1, 2022:

TheHandi-Van fare will increase from $2.00 to $2.25 per ride.

Riders are still encouraged to obtain a HOLO card to pay for rides onboard TheBus. HOLO cards can also be registered for a single rider for easier management of funds and protection against loss or theft. A family can manage multiple riders under one HOLO account as well. HOLO cards also come with fare capping, to ensure riders do not pay more than the daily or monthly fare cap, and 2.5-hour transfer windows. To obtain or register a HOLO card, visit www.holocard.net or call (808) 768-4656 for more information. For TheBus information, visit www.thebus.org or call (808) 848-5555.
