Panos: Carlisle’s start disappointing

Good Food, First Assessment on Carlisle, and More!

from www.FixOahu.com

City Hall.

What a disappointing start for Carlisle. It is too obvious now that he does not know anybody other than a group of downtown lawyers. So he made Managing Director a deputy prosecutor and reappointed the Mufi cabinet!

Six Billion Dollars.

How much do Mayor Carlisle and NJ Governor Christie have in common? A lot. Republican or ex-Republican. From New Jersey. Ex-Prosecutors. Both elected to top job and both faced a $6 Billion rail project. Christie canceled rail, Carlisle ran with it. So what's their difference on being fiscally responsible?  What's between the ears.

Good Food!

The Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head has a vision to build a world-class institute at the former Cannon Club site that will set a new standard for culinary education and provide opportunities for advanced degrees and skilled training for Hawaii's students.

During the week of NOVEMBER 15-21, 2010, more than 75 restaurants on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii will be participating in Restaurant Week Hawaii- a seven-day celebration of Hawaii's cuisine scene that will feature special menu items, promotions and discounts at participating restaurants and will also serve as a fundraiser for UH Community Colleges' Culinary Institute of the Pacific at Diamond Head.

Rail or HOT Lanes?

Honolulu made the wrong choice in the 2006 Alternatives Analysis when Elevated Rail was chosen as the Locally Preferred Alternative.

My evaluation using 2009 NTPP goals shows how big a mistake was made:

When economic growth, energy, environment and safety performance are accounted for, 20 miles of Elevated Rail will barely be half as good as 10 miles of HOT Lanes.

Happy Thanksgiving!
