Guam: GEC recounts ballots today
A recount of the nail-biting race for Guam's next governor will begin today, as was decided by a unanimous Guam Election Commission Board vote last night.
Republicans Sen. Eddie Calvo and Sen. Ray Tenorio defeated Democrats former Gov. Carl Gutierrez and Sen. Frank Aguon Jr. by 583 votes in the General Election on Tuesday, but the results will not be certified unless today's recount confirms the victor.
Other results from Tuesday's election -- the race for the Legislature, Consolidated Commission on Utilities, attorney general, Agat vice mayor and the retention of one judge and one justice -- were unanimously certified.
The results in the race for the island's delegate, in which Madeleine Bordallo is running unopposed, will be certified later, after military absentee ballots are given enough time to reach Guam.
