Reasons Hawaii Cannot Afford Neil Abercrombie #9

Abercrombie Will Harm Hawaii’s Relationship with Foreign Countries
Tourism is a cornerstone of Hawaii’s economy and culture and foreign relationships are essential for Hawaii leaders to foster if we are to continue promoting Hawaii as business and vacation destination. Governor Linda Lingle utilized her executive office to promote tourism, travel and business in Hawaii and fostered strong relationships with countries like China and Japan for our state’s benefit.
Neil Abercrombie’s record of abandoning foreign allies will harm Hawaii’s credibility with these foreign friends.
Frontpagemag.com reports Abercrombie has been called “one of the nation’s most ‘anti-Israel’ and pro-terrorist members of Congress.” His voting record speaks for itself:
- On several occasions, Abercrombie voted with less than 4 percent of the total U.S. House against resolution expressing solidarity with Israel in its fight against terrorism. (Roll Call 474, 12/5/01 and Roll Call 126, 5/2/02)
- In 2006, Abercrombie was one of only 36 House members to vote against the Palestinian Anti-Terrorism Act, which pledged financial support to Palestine but cut funding to Palestinian government run by Hamas, a group widely categorized as a terrorist organization that have been tied to terrorist attacks that have killed Americans. (Roll call 181, 5/23/06)
- In 2006, Abercrombie was the only member of U.S. Congress to vote against a resolution that pledged the U.S would never give financial aid the Palestinian Authority if any of the group’s leaders called for the destruction of Israel (Roll call 10, 2/15/06)
If Abercrombie can turn his back on one of the United States’ most important allies, Israel, we can expect him to do the same as Governor.
