Abercrombie Takes Extreme Positions on Life and Abortion

While many know Neil Abercrombie supports abortion, the extreme stances he has taken on parental notification and prosecuting criminals who harm fetuses during violent crimes are counter to the values of many here in Hawaii. While in Congress, he voted against:
- Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act, which restricted minors from traveling across state boundaries to circumvent state abortion laws, including parental notification for minors seeking an abortion. (Vote 144, 4/27/05)
- Pain Relief Promotion Act, which banned physician assisted suicide but promoted “aggressive pain relief techniques” for terminally-ill patients. (Vote 544, 10/27/99)
- Unborn Victims of Violence Act, which would strengthen penalties on criminals who commit a violent crime that would harm or kill a fetus. (Vote 31, 2/26/04)
