HONOLULU - Duke Aiona and Lynn Finnegan today launched the fifth in a series of online videos to discuss issues that are important to Hawai‘i's working families and small businesses.

The fifth spot, "All Islands," focuses on the Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative (HCEI), an unprecedented partnership Duke Aiona helped to launch with the goal of generating 70 percent or more of Hawai‘i's energy through energy efficiency and clean, renewable resources by 2030.

“As Governor, I will continue to lead and vigorously implement the Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative, and I will enact policies and initiatives that, by 2018, will cut Hawai‘i's dependence on foreign oil by more than half," said Duke Aiona. “Our opponents’ energy plan would take focus away from implementation of HCEI, stalling our progress on clean energy and further increasing the size and scope of government at the expense of small businesses."

A centerpiece of our opponents' plan is the reorganization of the State Energy Office and all of the energy regulatory functions of the PUC, merging them into a Hawai‘i Energy Authority.

"I believe this is bad policy," added Aiona. "It would be akin to merging the judge and jury with the state prosecutor’s office.”

"Our opponents’ policy reflects a lack of understanding of energy policy,” said Lynn Finnegan. “This type of thinking sacrifices independence and balance in government to a philosophy that government should determine everything. Duke and I are committed to continuing Hawai‘i on the path of specific and real progress toward energy security and self-sufficiency, building on the tremendous success our state has already achieved through the Hawai‘i Clean Energy Initiative."

The 30-second web video, "All Islands," consists of time-lapse driving sequences, seeing the islands through Duke Aiona's perspective as we hear his thoughts.

The web video can be viewed online at www.AionaFinnegan.com or Duke and Lynn's YouTube channel on www.YouTube.com/user/DukeAiona.

The following is a transcript of Duke Aiona and Lynn Finnegan's fifth web series video, "All Islands."

Duke Aiona (as voice over):  When it comes to protecting the environment, we all have a stake in the problem…and the solution.

That’s why, as Lieutenant Governor, I didn’t just sit on the sidelines. I helped take the lead on the Hawai`i Clean Energy Initiative.

It’ll help us generate most of our energy from renewable resources like wind, solar, ocean, bio-energy and geothermal.

And as governor, I’ll be able to do even more…to keep Hawai`i green.
