Honolulu, HI - Djou for Hawaii campaign spokesman, Daniel Son, issued the following statement after the Hawaii News Now debate:
"The voters of Hawaii's First Congressional District learned three things about Colleen Hanabusa tonight.
"First, the voters learned that Hanabusa believes that more government is the answer to every problem, even though the massive stimulus and government expansion into virtually every sector of our economy have failed.
“Second, they learned that Hanabusa doesn't know how to be bipartisan or independent. She was unable to name a single bill in the 111th Congress that she would've voted against or a single Republican in Congress with whom she could work.
“Finally, the voters learned that Hanabusa wants to raise taxes. Raising taxes is part of Hanabusa’s record. She has regularly voted for tax increases and consistently advocated for more taxes on small businesses. Hanabusa even falsely represented that she voted against a tax increase ‘sometime’ in the last 4 years. Her representation isn’t true.
"Hawaii’s residents are tired of machine politics and failed policies. They want change. After tonight's debate, it's clear that Charles Djou is the only candidate who will provide truly independent leadership for Hawaii."
