HONOLULU - Duke Aiona and Lynn Finnegan today issued the following statement in response to the tragic Typhoon Megi, which left the Philippines with at least 10 deaths in the Cagayan, Isabela, and Pangasinan provinces.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with our friends, family and all the people of the Philippines," said Duke Aiona. "Lynn and I and the people of Hawai‘i send our heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost loved ones due to the deadly rains, winds, flooding and resulting landslides that have claimed numerous lives. It is my sincere hope that all those affected will recover in the near future. Lynn and I pledge our long-term support and encourage our residents to keep the people of the Philippines in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

"The people of Hawai‘i understand what it takes to recover from a storm like Megi, and we stand by ready to support our neighbors and family in the Philippines," said Lynn Finnegan. "Duke and I encourage Hawai‘i residents to extend a hand of support to our neighbors by donating their time or financial support to the Hawai‘i Red Cross and other organizations accepting donations for disaster relief designated for the Philippines."

Lynn Finnegan's family is from the Siquijor, Cebu and Cagayan provinces, and Mrs. Vivian Aiona's family is from the Cebu province.
