Rasmussen Polls Show His Lead Narrow by 23 Percent in Two Weeks

HONOLULU—HRP Chairman Jonah Ka’auwai released the following statement on the latest poll numbers released by Rasmussen/ Public Opinion Strategies, which showed Republican challenger Cam Cavasso closing the gap from Senator Dan Inouye from 36 percent to 13 percent in just two weeks:

“Senator Inouye has served Hawaii for nearly half a century in the U.S. Senate but his narrowing margin against challenger Cam Cavasso illustrates the weariness of Hawaii voters with the Democrat machine that has suffocated Hawaii politics for decades.

“Inouye backed Colleen Hanabusa in May’s special election for Hawaii’s first congressional district.  She came in second place and is still defying political analysts who believed the seat was a safe Democrat seat by polling behind Republican Charles Djou in recent polls.  Inouye also backed Mufi Hannemann for governor and Kirk Caldwell for mayor, both of whom lost their election.

“The good people of Hawaii are feeling the burden of our nation’s slow economic recovery and the stranglehold of union bosses and the Democrat machine looking out only for themselves and not their members or the people of Hawaii.

“Hawaii Republicans offered an alternative to ‘business as usual’ with over 70 Republican candidates running in this year’s general election.  As the polls show, people of Hawaii are responding to these candidates and their values of liberty, limited government, individual responsibility and fiscal accountability.

“We are looking forward to making gains in the State Legislature and U.S. Congress as well as keeping the Governor’s seat and Hawaii’s first congressional seat firmly in Republican hands.”
