HONOLULU - Duke Aiona and Lynn Finnegan today unveiled their policy agenda for Native Hawaiian issues. First as a judge, and later as Lieutenant Governor, Duke Aiona has been instrumental in advancing Hawaiian causes and tackling issues that disproportionately affect the Hawaiian community.
An Aiona-Finnegan Administration will advocate for approval of the Akaka Bill and a fair, just and comprehensive negotiation process following passage; collaborate with all stakeholders to resolve the longstanding ceded lands revenue dispute; and grow and sustain Department of Hawaiian Homelands revenues to place more Hawaiian families on homestead land.
As an attorney and former judge, Duke Aiona understands that federal recognition of Native Hawaiians is critical to preserving and protecting vital Hawaiian programs - like Kamehameha Schools, DHHL, and OHA - which are constantly under legal attack.
"I have always believed that what is best for Native Hawaiians is best for Hawai‘i," said Duke Aiona. "Federal recognition and self-determination will benefit all of Hawai‘i's citizens."
