Statement on Unemployment Rate

HONOLULU - Duke Aiona today issued the following statement in response to figures released this morning showing job decline and the national unemployment rate remaining at 9.6 percent in September.

"The high unemployment rate at the federal level is a serious concern, especially because my opponent's plan for Hawai‘i depends on dwindling federal deficit-financed dollars.

"Until working families and small businesses begin to feel more confident about our business environment, job creation will struggle.

"It is critical that Hawai‘i focus on cultivating a business-friendly environment that creates real job opportunities in the private sector.

"Government doesn’t create the jobs that fuel our economy over the long term, but an Aiona-Finnegan Administration will make it easier for those who do."
