Joint Resolution Passed 50/49

Sen. Hirono [D-HI]: Yea

Sen. Schatz [D-HI]: Yea

This was a vote to raise the statutory debt limit. All Republicans voted here against raising the limit, which would have risked a global economic catastrophe from the United States defaulting on its debts and failing to pay civil servants, soldiers, contractors, and grantees for programs that were already set in law. Many had voted for the deficit spending that necessitated this increase in the statutory debt limit. Days earlier, ten Republicans joined all Democrats to change the Senate rules for this joint resolution so that it would pass, but then voted against final passage here.
