HRP RESPONDS TO NEGATIVE MAINLAND DEMOCRAT ADS
HONOLULU-- HRP Chairman Jonah Ka'auwai and Executive Director Dylan Nonaka held a press conference today to discuss the national Democrat establishment's misleading tactics in the race for Hawaii's first congressional district, particularly the recent ad release by the DCCC this week:
"National Democrats have already blown over $530,000 in this race in a desperate attempt to mislead Hawaii voters and distract them from examining Colleen Hanabusa's record. Every dollar spent has been to distort Congressman Djou's record while no dollar was spent promoting anything positive about their "second favorite" candidate.
"National Democrats trotted out the same old attacks on Congressman Charles Djou as they did in May's special election, attacks that are baseless and completely false. They insist that Congressman Djou voted against Hawaii schools but the truth is Hawaii schools were not in danger of closing and no teachers were at risk of losing their jobs.
"What Congressman Djou did vote against was another Washington bailout financed by cuts to food stamps, tax hikes on America's families and more deficit spending. This irresponsible measure forced Hawaii taxpayers to bail out other more fiscally reckless states.
"Instead of ceasing to run these deceitful ads, national Democrats have doubled down and are now using children to do their dirty work. It's truly a sad day when national campaign committees resort to using minors to carry out their hatchet jobs.
"Not only that, but some of the actors in this 'independent' campaign ad are actually union bosses who have given thousands to the Hanabusa campaign. This is the very worst of our politics and the voters of Hawaii will not be fooled."
