Anton Krucky to serve as acting director for the City’s Department of Community Services
News Release from City and County of Honolulu, Oct 22, 2021
HONOLULU – The Blangiardi administration submitted Anton Krucky’s nominee form and resume to the Honolulu City Council on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, providing Krucky with a commission to serve as Acting Director of the Department of Community Services (DCS), pending his confirmation by the Honolulu City Council. Acting Director Krucky will continue to work with his dedicated team of professionals in the Office of Housing and Homelessness while he is at DCS, with a design to eventually join the two organizations together to address community issues.
“I am very grateful and excited to work with Anton and build upon his significant leadership experience and hard work in the housing and homelessness sectors. Anton and I met with the leadership team and expert staff at DCS today, discussing our goals and high expectations for the future,” said Mayor Blangiardi. “Homelessness is a top priority in my administration and Anton, along with Dr. Jim Ireland, have spearheaded the CORE program, which launched earlier this month and is already making a positive difference, connecting people with resources and helping them off the streets. We are excited to make these positive changes and expand the CORE program in order to continue making noticeable improvements in our communities.”
“I look forward to working with the dedicated and compassionate team members at the Department of Community Services,” said Krucky. “We will optimize our programs for the community and look for creative ways to expand our reach and outcomes. We are thrilled about our progress in the City’s integrated affordable housing strategy and we will deliver solutions we can all be proud of.”
Krucky has been serving as the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Housing and Homelessness. Discussions are underway about positioning the Office of Housing and Homelessness under DCS to allow more resources, staff, and community partners to drive development of affordable housing, senior housing, and special needs housing, as well as coordinate City activities and programs relating to homelessness.
Joy Barua, the former Acting Director/Deputy Director of DCS, submitted his resignation effective at the close of business Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021. We thank Joy for his leadership during our first 10 months in office and wish him the very best in his future career.
