We Need Better Vision
From HawaiiChildrenFirst.org
There is a clear lack of vision at the Board of Education:
-
When asked about its "strategic vision" at a recent meeting, BOE members said they "need to talk about it" and even asked for samples from other states in order to fashion their own vision.
-
A recent survey of Hawaii's public school principals categorically cited lack of clear strategic vision as a fundamental weakness in the system.
-
With decades of experience, the Board needs an outside consultant to help it determine what type of superintendent our system needs.
Better vision will come from a MORE QUALIFIED BOARD.
By allowing BOE members to be considered through an appointment process, there will be greater scrutiny of nominees and the pool of qualified individuals is likely to increase.
