Tell Canada to Stop Being Racist
by Sam King, May 18, 2021
A few days ago, the Canadian Astronomy Society (CASCA) had a meeting and decided that they could not support the construction of TMT on Mauna Kea unless the Native Hawaiians "consented".
Seeing as our community has already "consented" through our democratic political process, I believe this new requirement to be the imposition of racist, neo-colonial requirements on our society that are not in keeping with the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, rule-of-law based traditions of our people and this place.
And I let Canada know on Twitter:

This has apparently caught CASCA's attention and they are now counting how many retweets I get versus anti-TMT people, because they seem to think "consent" = re-tweets.
If this is true it is...ridiculous...to say the least. But regardless, the truth is that the more re-tweets my tweet gets, the more of an impact it will have in shifting Canada back to a rational position based on equality before the law and democracy.
So I am writing now to ask you to please re-tweet my tweet (and all my tweets in that thread) to help protect the incredible and beautiful multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, secular democracy that we have all created in these islands.
Please re-tweet

Mahalo,

PS: With respect to building TMT on Mauna Kea, do not fear. CASCA's position is not fatal to TMT on Mauna Kea. Even if Canada leaves, other partners can be brought in, including the United States federal government.
