LAWMAKER DECLARES "IT'S TIME TO OPEN THE STATE CAPITOL TO THE PUBLIC"
News Release from Office of Rep Gene Ward, May 14, 2021
Honolulu, HI - Representative Gene Ward (R-Hawaii Kai) has called for the opening of the House of Representatives and the State Senate to the public immediately.
"Following the CDC's guidelines issued yesterday (May 13, 2021), it's clearly time to open up the State Capitol," Ward said.
"The State Capitol doesn't belong to us; it belongs to the people of Hawaii. The Capitol is a public building, and should be open to the public, period," Rep. Ward noted.
The State Capitol has been closed since March of 2020 when the pandemic began, and unlike other State and government buildings across our State, the Capitol has remained closed to the public.
"It's time to open the State Capitol to the public," Ward concluded.
