SA: State says century-old Kaupakalua Dam slated for removal this summer -- “At this time, we are not aware any property damage that occurred due to the overtopping,” said Tsutsui in a statement. “However, this does not diminish the damage caused in the surrounding community located mauka of the reservoir by the overwhelming and unprecedented rainfall here on Maui.” Prior to Monday’s storm, Mahi Pono said the reservoir was empty, and was not being used to collect water for irrigation purposes — and is dry under normal conditions.
