Congressman Charles Djou (HI-01) issued the following statement responding to a deceptive and disingenuous campaign ad from the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) curiously entitled "Not Independent."
The ad cites a source that listed Congressman Djou as voting with the Republican Party 89.5% of the time when, in fact, according to that same source, Congressman Djou is the most independent member of the Hawaii delegation.
"According to the same source for the DCCC ad, I am actually the most independent, bipartisan member of Hawaii's Congressional delegation.
"I have always said that I will be Hawaii's Congressman, first and foremost, and that is precisely what I have done. This misleading attack ad from national Democrats is the latest example of what is wrong with our politics and highlights the need for change."
According to the ad's source, Congresswoman Mazie Hirono votes with her own party 98% of the time, Senator Dan Inouye votes with the national Democrat Party 97.2% of the time and Senator Daniel Akaka votes with his party 96.5% of the time.
The same source also showed Congressman Djou voting with Democrats 60% of the time.
