News Release from Office of Sen Brian Schatz, February 15, 2021
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) today was named Chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee’s Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittee.
“We need to rethink the way we invest in our communities. I’m committed to making sure we are putting money where people need it most. That means more support for affordable housing, climate resiliency, and safer and more efficient transportation systems,” said Senator Schatz. “We have a lot of work to do, and this new post puts me in a better position to help shape and defend Hawai‘i’s priorities.”
The Subcommittee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Development is responsible for appropriating funding for public transit, housing, and infrastructure projects across the country. Last Congress, Schatz helped steer billions to Hawai‘i, including over $200 million in transportation funding and nearly $300 million in housing funding.
