DJOU: “HEROES IN UNIFORM” DESERVE CREDIT FOR SUCCESS IN IRAQ
Honolulu, HI — Congressman Charles K. Djou (HI-01) issued the following statement today honoring the American troops whose courage and valor secured the victory that President Obama acknowledged in his address tonight on the shift in policy in Iraq:
“Today marks a historic and monumental shift—and we have our brave men and women in uniform to thank for that. The progress made in Iraq has been difficult and undeniable. It is remarkable to reflect on how far Iraq has come from a nation ruled by a tyrant to a functioning democracy in the heart of the Arab Middle East. This is what our courageous troops have accomplished.
“As we move forward, we know that there is still much work to do. Our men and women have done their part, and it is incumbent upon their elected leaders to remain resolute in the war against radical Islam. I stand ready to work with my colleagues in Congress to ensure that our troops get the resources they need and get home safe.
“War is never easy and rarely follows neat election schedules. Winning in Iraq is a major accomplishment and we must now follow through in Afghanistan.”
Background:
Congressman Djou is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve and represents the Congressional district which is home to the U.S. Pacific Command, U.S. Army Pacific, U.S. Pacific Fleet, U.S. Pacific Air Force, Pearl Harbor, Camp H.M. Smith, and Fort Shafter.
He also joined colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee in introducing H. Con. Res. 310, which honors the service and sacrifice of members of the United States Armed Forces who are serving in, or have served in, Operation Iraqi Freedom.
