ADVISORY OPINION NO. 2021-1

From Honolulu Ethics Commission, Sept 16, 2020 (With a few editorial comments.) 

On August 19,2020, the Honolulu Ethics Commission adopted Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law (Exhibit A), determining that a city employee violated the city's standards of conduct by taking a city vehicle to a commercial establishment to watch football games three weekends in a row….

Respondent was observed parking his City truck to watch football games three Sundays in a row while on the clock supposedly checking up on unmanned City parks.

This might explain why the homeless are overrunning our parks.

The dates are Sept 24, 2017 Oct 1, 2017 and Oct 8, 2017.  The games each day began about 7am.

The respondent checked out a City truck for each day and signed a time sheet claiming to have been on the job from 630am to 3pm each day.

Fortunately City workers are not likely to get furloughs.  I don’t know how we would survive without public employees like these.

This is the first Honolulu Ethics Commission report since May and the first report on wrongdoing since April, 2019.
