Washington, DC — Congressman Charles K. Djou (HI-01), met with H.E. Yosiwo P. George, the Ambassador to the United States from the Federated States of Micronesia and other Micronesian Embassy officials:
Congressman Charles Djou, Micronesian Ambassador H.E. Yosiwo P. George, First Secretary on Political and Cultural Affairs Dominic Maluchmai, and Deputy Chief of Mission James Naich.
Congressman Djou issued the following statement:
“I was honored to meet with Ambassador George for over an hour today. We discussed several issues of mutual importance and expressed our commitment to a strong partnership between the United States and the Federated States of Micronesia.”
Congressman Djou articulated his concerns about the impact of Micronesian immigration to Hawaii on the City and County of Honolulu and the State of Hawaii's social service programs. Congressman Djou and Ambassador George both acknowledge that the status quo is not working.
