KPD provides firearms registration forms online

News Release from Kauai Police Department, July 31, 2020

LĪHU‘E — The Kaua‘i Police Department (KPD) now offers all three firearms registration forms on its website. The forms are fillable and printable and KPD requests that the public please complete and print them prior to arriving at their scheduled appointment.

“We put the forms online to make the process easier and more expedited. Please take the time to fill out each of the forms and bring them with you to your scheduled appointment. Anyone who arrives with incomplete forms may need to reschedule their appointments,” said Captain Mark Ozaki. “We thank everyone in advance for their continued patience and ability to adapt to the various changes that we have had to make along the way in order to help maintain public health and safety.”

KPD’s Records Section suspended all services to the public, including firearms transactions on March 23, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The action was taken in order to protect the health and well-being of KPD employees and members of the community.

KPD resumed limited services on March 31 and expanded to full-service firearms registration operations by appointment only on April 7.

During the closure and reopening by appointment only, KPD personnel have been developing online forms for firearms registration and Permit to Acquire firearms applications to better serve the public and reduce the need for people to appear in person to complete the documents.

Please visit “Police-Department/Firearms-Section” to fill out the required forms and for more information. To make an appointment, please call 241-1929.
