Former GOP State Representative Makes Candidacy Official with Backing from Lingle & Aiona

HONOLULU, JULY 16, 2010— Oahu businessman and former Republican State Representative Campbell “Cam” Cavasso has formally announced his bid for the Republican nomination to challenge U.S Senator Daniel Inouye this fall.   Cavasso, who has been building a campaign organization for several months, is known as a “common-sense conservative” who is deeply committed to Constitutional principles, individual rights, and core American values.   Both Governor Linda Lingle and Lt. Governor James “Duke” Aiona were signatories on Cavasso’s formal nomination papers.

Cam Cavasso stated, “With the economy reeling from an unprecedented national debt and an unsustainable addiction to expanding the size and spending of government, and with traditional values mocked and marginalized by an unaccountable, out-of-control Congress, we must bring sanity back to Washington, D.C.  More than any other Beltway politician, Daniel Inouye personifies the Pelosi-Reid Congress’s big spending, anti-family agenda. If we are to repair our economy and restore our nation, the reign of Daniel Inouye must end.”

Cavasso represented District 51 in Windward Oahu for three terms in the Hawaii State Legislature from 1984 – 1990.  For 22 years, he has worked as a financial advisor with Mass Mutual Financial Group, and he owns a small farm in Waimanalo. A former Captain in the U.S. Army, Cavasso’s family roots in Hawaii trace back to the 1800’s when his great grandfather served as the photographer to the royalty in the Hawaiian Kingdom.  He resides with his wife Tula, two sons, three daughters, and nine grandchildren in Windward Oahu.

Cavasso commented, “For too long Daniel Inouye and the professional politicians who control Congress have put their obsession with expanding the size and influence of government ahead of the will of the voters.  They continue to burden our children and grandchildren with debt.  They seek to destroy the fabric of our social institutions by redefining family, marriage, and the role that faith plays in our national discourse.  Enough is enough. “

For more information about Cavasso’s policy positions, which include a smaller, more responsive federal government that is forced to live within its means and a focus on traditional values, please visit http://www.camcavasso.com.
