More Sacred Trash at Mauna Campsite

And More Excuses by the Kia’i

by Lisa Malakaua, Feb. 15, 2020

So there seems to be more “sacred trash” photos and/or videos from the Mauna encampment circulating around that has some people’s BVD’s all wrapped-up in a bundle. Guilty as charged.

As I was the one solely responsible in submitting those photos and videos. I believe Kia’i protestors Wong and Perez were quoted as saying in the Tribune-Herald that, “dirty tactics” were being used. Well now that’s rich coming from the protestors. For they are the world’s top notch experts in the area of “dirty tactics” so I guess they would know best wouldn’t they?

I gather this evidence to intentionally shame the protestors into cleaning up after themselves. The state nor it’s taxpayers should be paying for your block party and room service H-E-L-L-O.

So I say, there isn’t any justification or excuse for any encampment to be up there in the first place, and trashing the place certainly does not warrant or prove your point that you are right.

Those getting offended over it, must be the very ones that are culpable of this wrongdoing, and must be feeling a certain degree of shame and guilt just as I had predicted.

The protest encampment is largely spread-out on Conservation District Lands. The protestors must have not read DLNR’s mission statement where it states they are there to, “enhance, protect, conserve and manage Hawaii’s unique and limited natural, cultural and historic resources held in public trust for current and future generations of the people of Hawaii nei, and its visitors, in partnership with others from the public and private sectors.”

For the protestors, it’s about “protecting the mauna.” The same group of individuals that clearly exercises lame excuses and indulges in hypocrisy as part of their everyday norm. But most of us with half a brain knows darn good and well that their religious extremism is just all part of their way to act and/or speak in a way that is intended to attract attention and impress people who are watching them. Most of us also know that “kapu aloha” disintegrates just as soon as they leave that mountain.

For the rest of us that reside here, the trash is not only ugly to look at, but it’s also bad for our community and our environment. What? Are you going to tell me now that the protestors are the only ones who are allowed to bring issues that need to be addressed to the table? Hate to say it, but not even the Kia’i have the power to take away the right to a clean environment.
