Common Cause: Vote by Mail 'Will be a Disaster'
By News Release @ 4:52 PM :: 3168 Views :: Office of Elections

Help Every Hawaii Voter Be Heard -- We Need More Voter Service Centers!

From Common Cause Hawaii, November, 2019

To: City and County of Honolulu, Maui County, Kauai County, and Hawaii County Elections Divisions
From: [Your Name]

Please give Vote By Mail 's first year its maximum chance of smooth success by establishing sufficient Voter Service Centers -- in convenient locations, with extended hours, and on all islands.

Add your name to call on the County Elections Divisions to have more Voter Service Centers with extended hours on all islands.

There were a total of 756,751 people registered to vote in Hawaii statewide in the previous election, and of those registered voters, 398,657 people actually voted with 175,120 people voting in-person at traditional polling locations

This means that over 116,462 in-person voters could flood Oahu’s 2 Voter Service Centers; over 23,000 in-person voters could crowd Maui’s 3 Voter Service Centers; over 11,000 in-person voters could inundate Kauai’s 1 Voter Service Center; and nearly 24,000 in-person voters could throng the Big Island’s 2 Voter Service Centers. County Election Divisions officials have acknowledged that they are anticipating record voter turnouts in the 2020 elections.

A mere 8 Voter Services Centers statewide to handle a comprehensive change to our voting system is destined to bring Primary Day and  Election Day to its knees. Voters will be confused, inconvenienced, irritated, discouraged from voting, and convinced that Vote By Mail is a disaster. And it will be a disaster with this few Voter Service Centers -- turnout could even go down.

Please add your name and ask local officials to make sure that every voter has access to the services they need!
