Would Hanabusa “deem” a budget—or demand a vote?

How Will Hanabusa Explain Her Party’s Budget Failure?

Desperate Dems Look to ‘Deem’ Their Excuse For A Budget Through Congress

www.NRCC.org

Washington- After coming under fire for their failure to pass a budget, House Democrats are now looking to pass off a ‘deeming resolution’ as a real fiscal blueprint. This leaves Hawaii families wanting to know: Does Colleen Hanabusa support this deceitful plan? After already rubber-stamping a failed trillion-dollar stimulus, one would think that House Democrats would be more concerned with getting the economy back on track before the midterm elections. Instead, they have continued to give the green-light to the same big-spending, big-government policies that are responsible for driving the economy off the cliff.

Democrats in the past have blasted the idea of deeming a budget resolution through Congress, but now they are singing a different tune:

House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-WI):  “They use this rule to deem as passed the budget resolution which they have not been able to pass.  In other words, the rule says ‘Let us pretend that in spite of the fact that the Congress hasn't passed its budget, it has.’  That is what we are doing.” (Remarks, 5/18/06)

Rep. John Dingell (D-MI): “Moreover, the rules continue the so-called ‘deeming’ resolution, which allows the House to pretend it has adopted a binding budget resolution...”  (Congressional Record, 1/7/03)

Can Americans even trust the out-of-touch Democrat majority to get the economy back on track? After once promising that their trillion-dollar stimulus would produce millions of jobs, Vice President Joe Biden recently admitted that we will never get back the eight million jobs that have been lost so far:

“Vice President Joe Biden gave a stark assessment of the economy today, telling an audience of supporters, ‘there's no possibility to restore 8 million jobs lost in the Great Recession.’” (Stephanie Condon, “Biden: We Can't Recover All the Jobs Lost,” CBS News, 6/25/2010)

“Colleen Hanabusa's Washington friends owe it to Hawaii families to pass an honest, responsible budget that is essential for job creation, rather than ‘deeming’ their party’s excuse for a fiscal blueprint through Congress,” said NRCC Communications Director Ken Spain. “After months of high unemployment and rubber-stamping a failed trillion-dollar stimulus, Hanabusa's Democrat party leaders have already proven to Americans that they can’t be trusted with the nation’s economy. It’s time the out-of-touch Democrat majority finally listens to economists and middle-class families who have repeatedly called for less spending and more jobs.”
