State Capitol: July 6 rally against HB444 during Override Session
By News Release @ 9:56 PM :: 10691 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment

LEGISLATORS WILL CONVENE VETO OVERRIDE SESSION ON TUESDAY JULY 6

from www.HawaiiFamilyForum.org

Although Governor Lingle placed HB 444 on her “potential VETO list,” there is still no assurance that it will be vetoed. SHE HAS UNTIL JULY 6, TO MAKE THAT DECISION. If she takes no action on or before July 6, HB 444 will automatically become law.

While she decides, the Legislature is currently meeting to consider the possibility of overriding her VETO.

Keep in mind that the supporters of HB 444 need only convince three House members (who voted no back in April), to change their vote to a YES vote, to override the veto. Conversely, there are a few House Members who voted YES that could potentially change their votes to a NO vote.

We are asking everyone to…

1[     Continue to pray for Governor Lingle and her staff that she will have the courage, wisdom and conviction to make the right decision.

2]     CALL, WRITE or E-MAIL the Governor’s office to ask her to VETO HB 444

CALL: Oahu: 586-0034 Hilo: 974-6262 Kauai: 274-3100 Kona: 327-4953 Maui: 243-5796

FAX: 586-0006

E-MAIL: Governor.Lingle@hawaii.gov

3[     CALL, WRITE OR E-MAIL ALL House Members, especially from your District, and ask them to oppose any proposal for a VETO override. Click here for a directory listing of all House and Senate members. Please realize that they may not be in their offices and it is their staff that will take your calls. Have all your friends and family do the same thing.

4]     ALERT AND RECRUIT THOSE WHO ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO GO TO THE STATE CAPITOL ON JULY 6 TO OPPOSE ANY OVERRIDE OF HB 444. We are asking everyone to be there by 12:00 noon and stay as long as you can. Wear your white shirts and red iVOTE buttons!

Finally, remember to be courteous and respectful at all times. Mahalo for all your support!
