City holding workshops to update Primary Urban Center plan

News Release from City and County of Honolulu, July 24, 2019

HONOLULU – The Department of Planning and Permitting has scheduled three “Neighborhood Growth and Change” workshops for the Primary Urban Center Development Plan (PUC DP) update the week of July 29.

The PUC spans from Wai‘alae-Kāhala to Pearl City and includes the island’s most populated area, along with many beaches and mauka conservation lands. Because of the size of the plan area, each of the workshops will focus on a particular region of the PUC.

The public is invited to attend one of the workshops, which will run from 6-8:30 p.m.:

Monday, July 29, Ala Wai Elementary Cafeteria (PUC East)
Wednesday, July 31, ‘Aiea Public Library (PUC West)
Thursday, Aug. 1, Saint Andrew’s Priory, Activity Room (PUC Central)

The PUC DP guides projected growth and infrastructure investments and addresses key issues facing the community, such as housing and housing affordability, mobility, and natural resource protection. Also to be covered are O‘ahu’s aging population, climate change and sea level rise, and the impacts to future community well-being. The plan was last updated in 2004.

A vital component to the planning process is community participation. The upcoming workshops will focus on neighborhood character and desired growth and land use patterns.

Some of the issues include the following:

What types of growth and change would you like to see over time in your neighborhood?
What makes your neighborhood special?
What kind of housing development is needed in the PUC?
What natural areas need special protection?

For more information, see http://www.pucdp.com, or email us at pucdp@honolulu.gov.

If you require special assistance, auxiliary aid and/or service to participate in this event (i.e., sign language interpreter, interpreter for language other than English, or wheelchair accessibility), please call 768-8000, or email your request to info@honoluludpp.org at least three business days prior to the event.
