Are Hawaii officials paid too much or too little?
From Grassroot Institute, April 11, 2019
Steve Frates, a Pepperdine University professor and president of the Center for Government Analysis, discussed how the salaries of Hawaii officials compare with officials across the nation, to help answer the question of whether their pay should be increased, kept the same, or possibly even decreased.
Frates spoke about lawmaker salaries and public pension funding at a presentation hosted by the Grassroot Institute of Hawaii on Thursday, April 11.
Frates is a former member of the California State Constitutional Revision Commission and California Performance Review Commission, as well as author of numerous reports on state and local government finance and public policy issues. He also has written commentaries for the Los Angeles Times, The Orange County Register and other major newspapers.
The following day, the Maui County Salary Commission rejected a pay increase for Maui’s mayor and County Council members.
