Hannemann Pittsburgh fundraiser: Campaign Spending Commission not notified until after event

Hannemann’s “Notice of Intent to hold a Fundraiser” for his ill-fated campaign fundraiser sponsored by a Pittsburgh, PA rail-contractor wannabe is now finally posted on the Hawaii Campaign Spending Commission website.  According to the time stamp from the Campaign Spending Commission, it was not filed until Wednesday June 9, 2010 at 3:08PM HST.  This is the same as 9:08PM EST—more than two hours after the scheduled ending time of Hannemann’s 5PM to 7PM EST fundraiser in Pittsburgh.

According to the CSC’s own “Notice of Intent” form:

Section 11-203, Hawaii Revised Statutes…requires that ‘no fundraiser shall be held unless a notice of intent to hold a fundraiser is files with the Commission prior to the date of the function.”

Since the “date of the function” was June 9, clearly the law requires that a “Notice of intent” be filed on or before June 8—not two hours and eight minutes after the scheduled ending of the fundraising event.

Hannemann's form falsely states that the fundraiser was to be held June 10, 2010.  This parallels Hannemann's odd Twitter deceit reported by KHON2:

"According to Hannemann's office, Hannemann was to meet with the Chairman of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure on Wednesday, June 9, in Washington, D.C.

"Hannemann even sent a message on Twitter about his meeting with Rep. James Oberstar. But Oberstar's office told KHON2 News the meeting was scheduled for Thursday, June 10."

The form was signed by rail consultant Paul Overby on May 14, 2020.  Mayor Hannemann signed the notice on June 3, 2010.  It was apparently held until being filed late on June 9.

According to an invoice shown on KHON2, Hannemann’s tickets from Washington, DC to Pittsburgh were purchased April 29, 2010 and the invoice was date-stamped May 3, 2010.

KHON2 June 11 reported this twisted and self-contradictory statement by Hannemann:

Hannemann spoke with KHON2 today from the Oklahoma: “With respect to event in Pittsburgh, in my view although it was a fundraiser, I saw it more of a meet-and-greet, to be able to touch base with folks who have known me since college, and with the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of my favorite teams. No donations collected that evening, and I’m not coming back to Honolulu with contributions, nor will I accept any contributions from that fundraiser."

In spite of his claim that he saw the event as “a meet and greet”, on his “Notice of Intent to hold a Fundraiser” Hannemann affirms “I hereby certify that the information on this notice is true, correct, and complete to the best of my knowledge.”
