Rep. Djou Celebrates 112th Anniversary of Philippine Independence

Washington, DC — Congressman Charles Djou (HI-01) attended an event today commemorating the 112th anniversary of the Philippine Declaration of Independence.

“I was honored to participate in this celebration of the 112th anniversary of the Republic of the Philippines,” Djou said. “The Philippines is a critical ally of the United States and the Filipino culture is an important part of Hawai‘i where roughly one-fifth of the population is Filipino.

“We must ensure that the connection between the United States and the Philippines remains strong. One of my priorities in Congress is to strengthen our nation’s ties to the Philippines and expand the number of visas that our government issues, particularly to the Philippines,” Djou continued.

“I will continue to advocate for a vibrant American-Filipino relationship and for policies that protect the best interests of Hawai‘i,” Djou concluded.

Congressman Djou and his wife Stacey joined His Excellency Willy Gaa, the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines at a reception commemorating the 112th anniversary of Philippine Independence at the Army and Navy Club in Washington, D.C. Congressman Djou has consistently advocated that it is in America and Hawai‘i’s best interest to expand the number of visas that the U.S. Government issues, particularly those for the purpose of family reunification.
