Djou on City Council Committee Recommendation of Jonathan Lai

Congressman Charles K. Djou (R-HI) reacted to the Honolulu City Council Executive Matters and Legal Affairs ("EMLA") Committee's recommendation of attorney and former HCDA Chair, Jonathan Lai, to succeed him on the City Council.

"The EMLA committee's recommendation of Jonathan Lai to replace me on the City Council is noteworthy as Mr. Lai is an excellent choice," stated Djou.  "I respect, however, the City Council's authority to name my replacement and will work cooperatively with whomever is selected next week to fill the seat to ensure a smooth transition in the best interests of the people."

Djou vacated the Honolulu City Council nine days ago upon taking the oath of office as the U.S. Representative for Hawaii's 1st Congressional District.
