Tax Foundation of Hawaii and Coalition of Nonprofits, Businesses, and Individuals File in Supreme Court Supporting Counties’ Challenge to Property Tax Ballot Question

HONOLULU, HAWAII–September 27, 2018–The Tax Foundation of Hawaii, a nonprofit taxpayer watchdog organization, together with 14 other organizations, businesses, and individuals, submitted a court filing supporting the Counties’ request that the Hawaii Supreme Court void the ballot measure for school funds.

“Each of the organizations, businesses, and individuals joining in this motion has a profound interest in the issue presented here, which is whether the ballot measure required by Senate Bill 2922 (2018) is clearly presented to the electorate … or whether it is misleading or deceptive,” the filing states.

“The Foundation’s interest is in ensuring the transparency and clarity of the election, and that the people of Hawaii, from whom all governmental power is derived, are not misled or deceived by this ballot measure,” said Tom Yamachika, President of the Tax Foundation of Hawaii.
