Real property tax credit offered to homeowners with combined income of less than $60,000
News Release from City and County of Honolulu, September 20, 2018
Honolulu – Qualified homeowners still have time to apply for a real property tax credit offered by the City and County of Honolulu. Applicants who qualify can receive a tax credit equal to the amount of taxes owed for the current tax year that exceeds three percent (3 percent) of the titleholders’ combined gross income. This tax credit will be applied to next year’s taxes. However, an annual filing is required for this credit.
The application deadline is Monday, October 1.
Eligibility requirements include the following:
- Homeowner must have a home exemption in effect at the time of the application and for the subsequent tax year.
- Any of the titleholders do not own any other property in any other location.
- The combined income of all titleholders cannot exceed $60,000.

- All Satellite City Halls on O‘ahu.

In an effort to further educate the public about the city’s real property tax credits, two seminars will be held at this year’s “Hawai‘i’s Seniors Fair: The Good Life Expo” at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. Both sessions will be held in the Seminar Room on the dates and times listed below.
Learn when and how you can qualify for real property tax credits:
- Friday, September 21 - 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Saturday, September 22 - noon to 1 p.m.
The city’s Real Property Tax Relief Office will also have a booth at the “Hawai‘i’s Seniors Fair: The Good Life Expo” where taxpayers will be assisted in applying for property tax credits. Applications and informational brochures will be available at the City and County’s Tax Credit booth #102.
