Representative McDermott pulls his endorsement of John Carroll for Governor.
Cites involvement of fringe GOP troublemaker Eric Ryan and ongoing defamation of Carroll's rival Andria Tupola and her family.
News Release from Rep Bob McDermott (R-Ewa) May 4, 2018
Today Representative Bob McDermott officially withdrew his support for the gubernatorial campaign of John Carroll.
"If John can't control the civility his own campaign, he has no business running for governor," said McDermott. "It breaks my heart to see a fine man like John Carroll being exploited by the likes of Ryan, who prides himself in lowest form of mud-slinging "
"Eric Ryan claims to represents Republicans, but has done nothing but attack elected Republicans and party officials since he assumed control of HIRA (the Hawaii Republican Assembly)," added McDermott. "Unfortunately, he has expanded his unique brand of defamation and corrupted Carroll's campaign as well."
McDermott said he will withhold any future endorsement until a Republican candidate is chosen during the primary election.
Tupola has filed for a temporary restraining order (TRO) against Eric Ryan and a hearing has been scheduled for May 25th. The onslaught of accusations and derogatory internet assaults from Ryan continues unabated.
Ironically, Ryan was involved with John Carroll's campaign in 2008 which ended with him being fired and accused of forging documents and theft of funds by the candidate. McDermott was among many others who had recently warned Carroll about renewing his involvement with Ryan. Ryan has a long history of having disputes with former clients which inevitably result in false "criminal" accusations and cyber bullying against them by Ryan.
Several years ago Ryan was arrested after defying a TRO granted to Councilwoman Kymberly Pine for protection against similar harassment.
